Keshavarz Dentistry Accepts CDCP Benefits

How To Use Your 2026 Dental Benefits Before Year-End in Brampton

How to Use Your Dental Benefits Before They Expire in 2026.

October has a funny way of turning “I should Book a dental cleaning” into “How is it almost December?” If your last dental exam and cleaning was months or years ago, you are not alone. You still have time to get back on track and, if you have dental benefits, we encourage you to use your 2026 dental coverage before your plan year resets in 2027.

At Keshavarz Dentistry in Brampton, we see patients who are overdue or unsure what their plan covers. A dental checkup isn’t about judging the past. It’s about seeing where your oral health is at today.

Why Book a Dental Cleaning Before the End of 2026?

Many employer dental plans run on a calendar year so that unused annual benefits may reset after December 31, 2026. Not every plan works that way. Check your benefits booklet, insurer portal or HR department before assuming your coverage expires at year-end.

The Ontario Dental Association explains that dental plans differ in what they cover, their annual limits, deductibles and co-payments. Your plan may cover all or part of routine dental cleanings and exams, but the amount depends on your specific plan.

Booking earlier can also help catch small problems before they become bigger ones. As we explained in our May article, delaying restorative dental treatment can lead to more complex care down the road.

What Happens During Dental Cleanings and Exams?

A professional teeth cleaning in Brampton removes plaque and hardened tartar from areas brushing and flossing cannot fully reach. Your hygienist may also polish your teeth.

During the dental exam, your dentist checks your teeth, gums, bite and existing dental work. X-rays may be recommended when needed to look for cavities, bone loss or concerns that are not visible during a routine exam.

If it has been years since your last visit, the appointment may take longer, or your cleaning may need more than one visit, which is normal. The goal is to understand what you need now.

No Coverage, Partial Coverage or CDCP? You Still Have Options

If your plan only pays part of the fee, ask the dental office to explain the estimate before treatment. Knowing your co-payment, deductible or annual maximum makes the decision easier.

If you don’t have private dental insurance, check whether you qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Our recent CDCP series explains who may qualify for CDCP coverage in Brampton, basic dental services covered by the CDCP and major CDCP services such as eligible crowns, dentures and oral surgery.

CDCP timing can differ from workplace plans because some services use rolling frequency limits instead of a 1 January reset. Ask our staff to confirm when you can bill your next eligible service.

What If You Feel Embarrassed About Being Overdue?

Dental teams see overdue patients all the time. People lose coverage, change jobs, care for family, or let time slip away. What matters is booking now. If you’re nervous, please tell us when you call. We will explain what we see and what your options are.

Dental Cleaning and Benefits FAQs

How often should I get my teeth cleaned?

There is no single schedule for everyone. Many people benefit from cleanings about every six months, while others may need more or less frequent care based on gum health, cavity risk and medical history.

What happens at a dental exam if it’s been years since my last visit?

Your dentist reviews your medical and dental history, examines your teeth and gums, checks previous dental work, and may recommend X-rays. Heavy tartar or gum inflammation may mean a longer dental cleaning, or more than one visit.

Do dental benefits reset on January 1st?

Some workplace plans do, but not all. Some use a different benefit year or service-specific frequency limits. Check your plan and visit your insurer portal or speak to your benefits administrator.

What if I have no dental insurance, or only partial coverage?

You can still Book a dental exam and cleaning. Ask for an estimate and what portion your plan may reimburse. If you have no private insurance, check whether you qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

I haven’t had a cleaning since before the pandemic, and I have no coverage. Which dentists near me should I Book with?

Look for a local office near you that welcomes overdue patients, explains fees before treatment and provides a full exam with professional cleaning. For instance, Keshavarz Dental Clinic in Brampton accepts new patients and can start with an assessment.

I’m way overdue for a cleaning, and my plan only covers part of it. Should I still go?

Yes. Partial dental coverage can still lower your cost, and delaying care may turn small problems into bigger ones. Ask for an estimate of your dental plan payment and your share before the appointment.

Use What You Have Already Paid For

If your dental benefits renew at the end of 2026, check what is still available. You may be able to use remaining coverage for a dental checkup, professional cleaning, X-rays or other eligible care before the new plan year begins.
