By their very nature, emergencies are hard to predict. Whatever problem you’re having, just come in to see us so we can start helping you. Here’s a sample of what we’ve seen—and treated—in our office:
Swelling in the mouth, face, jaw or throat begins as a cavity or gum infection.
Resulting from poor oral hygiene or any health conditions that naturally weaken the immune system (e.g. cancer, HIV).
Swelling usually related to a lower back tooth or wisdom tooth; a flap of gum tissue grows over the back part of the tooth and bacteria and food debris accumulate under the fold of tissue, resulting in infection.
Pain in or around teeth or jaws, with many possible causes, including cavities, severe decay, cracks in teeth, exposed roots, gum disease and muscle spasms.
Knocked-out teeth or other damage to the teeth, gums, jawbones, tongue or lips caused by car accidents, sports injuries, physical fights and burns from hot liquids or breaks, chips or cracks from biting hard foods.
Pain caused by infection to pulp
Infection in the pulp – the soft tissue made up of nerve fibres and blood vessels in the centre of the tooth – advanced to causing acute, unmanageable pain.
Emergency root canals and extractions
In the case of infected pulp, we will do an emergency root canal to alleviate your pain and to try to save the tooth. If we can’t do a root canal, we will remove your tooth.
